A Mobile New Game – Campfire

It has been a long time since I have posted anything on my site or YouTube channel and for that, I am deeply sorry. There is a lot happening while I have been away, I picked up a new job, moved twice in one year, and have still been running overtime as a full-time dad. My work has been with a small gamedev company making various VR and mobile games and apps. This new job has taken up much of my time but I have still been able to work on some personal projects.

My brother and I worked on creating a cryptocurrency game that was focused on one currency (SHIB). Our hope was to create a new way for people to earn SHIB while promoting it at the same time. While our app never claimed to be the official SHIB app and there were already a load and a half of SHIB apps on Google Play, Google did not like our app and it was removed. While our app was taken down we still have a plan to improve on it and continue our concept. Another reason I have been out of the game is that the last house lived in did not have a very ideal location for recording my videos. However, I have good news, within the last month I have moved to a new state and in this house, I have an excellent location to record.

Now, this post isn’t about me and why I have been absent or what past projects I’ve been working on. This post is about a new project and game I am working on. The original concept is one my wife came up with while she was in her animation and game design program for her undergrad and this concept is one I have been throwing around for a long time now. We have called this game concept, Campfire. It was originally going to play as an infinite side scroller. The story was going to follow a group of people camping in the woods when an old man in the group begins to tell spooky stories around the fire. After everyone goes to bed the main character wakes up in the middle of the night and is now being chased by their worst nightmare. The game was going to allow the players to choose from the various types of characters and each character would have a different type of monster chasing them in their nightmare.

As most of you know I have already done a Unity tutorial series on how to create the game Among Us. As I was creating those tutorials I got the idea that the Campfire concept would work better as a top-down isometric multiplayer like Among Us. This will allow the players to play as the monster in the nightmare while they hunt for the other players playing as the campers.

I plan to get this game out fairly quickly and I have much of it developed already. To get the job done and to be thorough in my process I plan to bring you along for the ride. we will go over all the concepts and functionality required to create the game.
